Aside from those mentioned already I use A-Z Video Converter I use it for all my conversion needs so far. Just make sure that before deciding to convert MKV to MP4 you have all the necessary codecs installed.

The best conversion software I'V found so far is IMTOO. It truely is great, though i dont know if its free or not (i dont think so). I downloaded it off of a torrent but you should deffinatley check it out.

im guessing that your tryin to convert HD MKV files to MP4 to watch on an xbox 360. if u arent this can still be useful

and the files still look very very good. i compared the original MKV to the converted MP4 and they both looked mostly identical
